Marketing managers are looking at more efficient ways of reaching their target markets in the current economic environment, and an increase in online marketing is already showing, says WebNow.
"Online marketing is both efficient and measurable, so it is the obvious choice for marketing departments that have been faced with budget cuts," says Jean-Pierre Dumont, CEO of WebNow.
The company has noticed an increased demand for bulk messaging services, both bulk e-mail and bulk SMS, Dumont says. Bulk messaging benefits include efficiency and measurability as well as the added advantages of personalisation and the response or call to action being instantaneous.
Tough economic times, notes Dumont, is not the only reason why marketers are turning to personalised bulk messaging. The notion of one-to-one communication also makes sense. “It is a possibility that businesses around South Africa are finally starting to get this right and may have even begun mining and using all that valuable information they capture about their customers on a daily basis.”
Says Dumont: "The most difficult part of signing up new bulk messaging customers is to make sure they are not spammers, as spam is illegal in South Africa." So far this year, all the enquiries WebNow has fielded have been legitimate, he adds.
“So, it will be safe to say that not only will 2009 be the year of bulk messaging and online marketing, but more than likely the next era of marketing has finally begun.”
