Bulk SMS messaging - traditionally the domain of large corporations that could afford the upfront capital investment - has now been made available to all companies, groups, or individuals with the launch of a new service offering use of the technology without an upfront purchase.
The new service, launched by SMS specialist company Mobile Internet Gateway (MIG), and located on the Web at www.smsguys.co.za allows small companies, social groups, individuals, or even large companies to bulk purchase SMS messages and then send them over the Internet, without having to install any software on their own computers or servers.
"The breakthrough comes in the non-capital intensive service offering," says Derek Fingleson, managing director of MIG. "Previously companies would have to buy the technology, and then the bulk SMS messages, install the programs on their servers and keep the systems running, if they wanted to use bulk SMS messaging," says Fingleson.
"Now, by simply logging onto the smsguys.co.za Web site, anyone can send a personalised SMS message to as many or as few people as they want, without having to pay anything for the use of the technology. Furthermore, recipients can reply to messages and full delivery statuses are available"
The only cost involved is the SMS message itself, which works out at around 27c per message. "Compare that to a postage stamp, which is R1.30, or a telephone call, landline or cellular, and the savings are huge for anyone wanting to launch and advertising campaign, notify groups of people for events, or simply communicate with a large number of people," Fingleson says.
Fingleson introduced the service in response to requests from smaller companies that could not afford monthly subscriptions or the capital outlay associated with bulk SMS messaging. "With the new service, the bulk SMS market playing field has been levelled, and has become affordable for anybody, anywhere, anytime," he says.
The new service is ideal for Christmas promotions, sports clubs, social events, or even for large companies that may want to try out the effectiveness of bulk SMS messaging before purchasing their own permanent system. Full details of MIG can be found on the Web at www.mig.co.za.
