MapIT, a digital mapping company, has signed a licensed partnership agreement with a leading black empowerment integrated solutions provider, Business Connexion (BCX). The agreement will give BCX access to MapIT's enriched mapping data.
The new partnership follows the decision by BCX to sell their in-house map building facility to focus on their core business in the IT and communications fields. BCX provides mission-critical information and communication technology systems and manages products, services and solutions (that include geospatial services) to JSE-listed clients, as well as key public sector and parastatal organisations.
BCX's access to accurate map data is essential for the successful roll-out of geospatial solutions. This allows BCX to optimise logistical and fleet management activities, call centres, vehicle tracking, and the delivery of social and essential services by local and central government. Accurate mapping is also required for location-based marketing activities linked to demographic overlays and enriched corporate and proprietary point of interest data.
According to MapIT Managing Director Etienne Louw, the strategic partnership with BCX offers MapIT an ideal opportunity to leverage its unique and powerful position in the market as the premier supplier of digital map data.
"This is an exceptionally good fit for us," explains Louw. "BCX has the expertise to integrate mission-critical information and communication solutions for large enterprise and public sector organisations. In addition, we have a proven record of supplying enriched and highly accurate digital mapping data to commerce and industry in South Africa."
Louw added that the strategic partnership would give MapIT a channel to a variety of enterprise level and government organisations that use map data to optimise their operations.
"This is a real win-win partnership," says Louw.
MapIT's most recent release of southern Africa mapping data includes 667 815km of detailed road coverage and more than 234 000 points of interest on the map.
In a separate development, MapIT announced that it had entered into strategic relationships with two other African-based partners. Ramani Geo Systems based in Kenya, and Third Dimension Technologies (3DT) in Nigeria, offering a range of geospatial services essential to government and private activities - and who will represent MapIT in both countries.
These partnerships will place MapIT at the centre of private and public sector geospatial activities in both East and West Africa.
