Microsoft solutions specialist Business Connexion has signed an agreement to supply, support and maintain Sybari`s Antigen anti-virus, document and content filtering solution for Microsoft`s Exchange and SharePoint Portal Server, in the local market.
Business Connexion, in conjunction with Sybari, Microsoft, HP and others, hosted a three-city roadshow that kicked off with the Johannesburg event on 19 February. With security uppermost in users` minds, Antigen provides protection for corporate messaging environments and its architecture institutes a pre-emptive line of defence against viruses and malicious code.
"Business Connexion is dedicated to Microsoft so as an integral partner solution to the emphasis Microsoft places on security, this deal is a logical extension of our core business," says Bruce Krebs, marketing director at Business Connexion.
The roadshow discussed high availability with Microsoft Exchange Server, the delivery of highly scalable and available Microsoft Exchange solutions on ProLiant, leveraging Microsoft Exchange to deliver secure, high-performance security, introduce the Extensible Storage Engine approach for real-time in-memory scanning, using trusted source flagging for high server to mail performance and the latest worm purge technology.
Microsoft Exchange gives Outlook users the power of collaboration and SharePoint Portal Server helps organise, manage, search and share information throughout the organisation. As users share information they run an increased risk of sharing viruses, both e-mail and document borne, as well as worm viruses. The effect is corrupted company data and a compromised network.
"Sybari`s proven commitment to Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint Portal Server has been evident in its consistent delivery of innovative and effective solutions," says Desmond Nair, product marketing manager at Microsoft SA. "Sybari is focused on enhancing the security of our customers` information sharing infrastructure while maintaining maximum server performance."
Kurt Schlegel of research firm, Meta Group, says: "Especially for larger organisations, server-based virus checking is a far more manageable solution than desktop-based checking, and the only true way to guard against attack. Sybari`s Antigen is a good example of a powerful, intelligent anti-virus server solution that allows IT staff to assign flexible and customisable rules, such as the ability to scan by file name or type, that best suit the nature of networking traffic, while optimising virus scanning, filtering and detection capabilities.
"As viruses continue to change and evolve, they have learned to exploit security vulnerabilities that allow them to slip through firewalls and enter networks through other means besides Internet or e-mail gateways. This makes it critical to have a robust anti-virus server solution placed strategically on e-mail or groupware servers as viruses traditionally use those environments to proliferate the network," says David Ferris of Ferris Research.
Sybari`s President of EMEA and Asia, Marc Olson, says: "For Sybari, partnering is a competitive advantage and our agreement with Business Connexion is a key milestone in the continued growth of our Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint focused channel. The partnership is indicative of the clear recognition within the Exchange and SharePoint communities that Sybari`s Antigen for Exchange and SharePoint is the preferred solution for the increased necessity for advanced security and protection within the Exchange environments."
