Business Connexion has won the bid for the Sanlam Group data centre outsourcing. The three-year contract covers mainframe, open systems Unix and Windows servers, storage and data centre management.
The transition is currently in progress and Business Connexion will be in charge of service delivery from January 2010 for the Sanlam Group.
Sanlam's goal is to consolidate infrastructure services, including the data centres of both Santam and Sanlam, under the control of Sanlam's Information Technology Infrastructure Shared Services (ITISS) division. Business Connexion has been running the Santam data centre since 2000 and has now been awarded the contract for the Sanlam infrastructure as well. The Santam services will be relocated from Midrand to Cape Town in April 2010.
“This contract is very significant for Business Connexion Western Cape,” says John Jenkins, Group Executive: Services Group at Business Connexion. “We have always considered our corporate match with Sanlam as being very strong and this deal reflects that reality.
“Sanlam's ITISS division is in charge of the overall project for their infrastructure services and we are very pleased to have a larger role in this, delivering more value and lower cost of ownership to the customer.”
Under the mainframe section of the deal, Business Connexion is delivering an IBM Z-Series mainframe system.
“The mainframe technology is state of the art, with great capacity for expansion,” says Jenkins. “The transition of storage solutions and management is going very smoothly, thanks to close co-operation with ITISS.
“This is a large and complex project. One lesson that stands out - applicable to projects of almost any size - is that clear specifications and decision-making are essential to achieve the desired results. Working with ITISS, we have been able to build a solution that answers business needs, delivers added value for the customer and reduces operational costs.”
