Computer Storage Services is introducing a category five biometrics vault to the local market.

A category five ranking is the highest for vaults, according to the South African Bureau of Standards.

Computer Storage Services is not disclosing the launch date for the product, called CipherVault.

The vault allows companies to store off-site, providing military-grade encryption. A subset technology, based on Mark Shuttleworth`s Public Key Infrastructure, secures the network, allowing companies to transmit their via wireless network.

"The off-site storage and archiving of data will complete the cycle from the creation of data to its final archival in our facilities," says James Grcic, MD of Computer Storage Services.

CipherVault is the culmination of three years of design, planning and research, Grcic adds, with 18 months spent on the development of the technology systems.

Automatic backup

SES Electronics will deliver its Ceiborg Data Storage solution, dubbed CDS-10, to the local market in September.

Ceiborg is an automatic backup and archiving system, which uses optical media and is aimed at small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

"Although this solution is ideal for the SME market, it also lends itself to larger organisations that have remote sites," explains Alex Sivan, MD of SES Electronics in SA.
