DataPro, network integrator and first-tier Internet service provider (ISP), has announced the launch of a business continuity division following growing demands from an increasingly e-business driven economy.
According to Jaco Voigt, Director - Managed Network Solutions at DataPro, business continuity has become an absolute necessity in the modern economy and " all companies needs to have a business continuity plan in place".
The need for proper business continuity plans was accentuated by the 11 September terrorist attacks last year on the American Twin Towers. A large number of companies operating from the Twin Towers - some of them very large - lost vast amounts of data and equipment, ultimately forcing them to shut their doors.
"These days it is not just big businesses which rely on the Internet and sophisticated IT systems to conduct fundamental business - the vast majority of companies now play in this pool."
In SA the theft of mission-critical business equipment has become an increasingly big problem. "If a company has, for instance, an accounting system running on a file server and it has been stolen, daily business operations, such as the issuing of invoices and collection of debtors outstanding, is affected, leading to a loss of not only time but also income.
Voigt said DataPro`s new business continuity division offers the marketplace customised solutions based on the assessment of a client`s critical applications, the identifying of potential points of failure and, finally, the offering of a fully-fledged business continuity solution that provides the client with the necessary backup.
"It has become necessary for companies to put plans in place to make sure that not only their critical data is secure and retrievable, but they also have the necessary hardware and facilities to retrieve the data.
"If a client`s equipment fails or is stolen we will, in effect, have a backup device waiting in the wings for them, meaning that downtime is cut to an absolute minimum."
