Business Edge Systems (BES) has been appointed a value-added reseller for Moraine Systems` Glacier Suite. Glacier is a locally developed financial software suite focused on the insurance industry, with advanced modules that manage short-term policies, employee benefits, life insurance and cash management.
As a VAR, BES will provide support and services around Glacier solutions to its own customers. Moraine Systems CEO, Eric Verhagen, says BES was chosen for a number of reasons.
"We liked their proven track record in the industry, based on 14 years of consulting and project work, and particularly found their depth of skills in the insurance, employee benefits and banking markets a convincing attribute." he says. "We`ve appointed BES as a VAR so that we can concentrate on keeping Glacier abreast of legislative and industry changes as well as technologically superior, while BES can focus on sales growth, implementations and support."

The software provides a real-time, fully integrated front and back office solution, with functionality that allows insurance companies, brokers, intermediaries, fund administrators and underwriting agencies to exercise complete control over business activities. Functionality includes member/client administration, underwriting, reinsurance, claims, credit control, fund management and full accounting. Additional facilities, already built into Glacier, are workflow and document management and an easy-to-use browser-based user interface. Glacier`s design enables rapid response to new business requirements and legislative changes, allowing business users to configure and implement rule changes, independently of IT.
Glacier Insurance has a broad base of installed clients, not only in SA but also in Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Nambia.
Customers confirm that using Glacier has streamlined their administrative burden, eased the training process for staff and allowed for more efficient use of staff. Information - both current and historical - is readily available to management, administrators, underwriters, auditors and other stakeholders.
Verhagen says the market is at the early stages of rapid growth and that the Glacier and BES relationship offers a strong opportunity for clients to be ahead of the changes.
