Banking and insurance systems specialist, Business Edge Systems, has been awarded an AA empowerment rating by the rating agency, Empowerdex.
This equates to a level three contributor in terms of the DTI Codes of Good Practice.
Rob Stansell, MD of Business Edge Systems, comments: "This rating assists our clients to attain their empowerment targets by allowing them to claim 110% of the spend on our services as BEE procurement. It is a significant milestone in our transformation strategy - which kicked-off in earnest three-and-a-half years ago.
"The rating recognises the significant progress we have made in six of the seven dimensions of the DTI's generic scorecard, namely: equity ownership, management, employment equity, skills development, preferential procurement, and corporate social investment."
In July 2006, Business Edge Systems concluded a deal whereby African Spirit Trading - a wholly black-owned entity - acquired a 26% shareholding in the company.
Alan Pillay, representing African Spirit Trading, joined the board as COO at that time.
