Business Objects announces native access to latest versions of leading OLAP servers

Johannesburg, 15 Sep 1998

Leading Integrated Query, Reporting, and Analysis Tool Enables Ad Hoc Query and Analysis of Data Stored in Arbor/Hyperion, IBM DB2, Informix, and Oracle OLAP Servers

Business Objects (NASDAQ: BOBJY), the world's leading provider of integrated enterprise decision support tools, today announced integration with the latest releases of Arbor/Hyperion, IBM, Informix, and Oracle multidimensional database servers.

By offering native integration with Arbor Essbase 5.0, IBM DB2 OLAP Server 1.0, Informix MetaCube 4.0, and Oracle Express Server 6.1 on Solaris and NT, Business Objects provides customers with an advanced tool for integrated query, reporting, and analysis of all their corporate data, including that stored in all leading online analytical processing (OLAP) servers.

"Our goal is to provide any user in the organization access to any data located any where in the organization at any time," said Dave Kellogg, vice president of corporate marketing at Business Objects. "With the integration between BusinessObjects and current versions of all leading OLAP servers, our joint customers can quickly access valuable corporate data, whether it is stored in relational or multidimensional data stores or personal files, combine it with other data sources, and then analyze it to make informed business decisions.

Integration with these OLAP server databases provides users with the following benefits:

Integration of multiple data sources within one report

BusinessObjects users can analyze data from multidimensional databases and other sources, including data warehouses, relational or multidimensional data marts, and packaged applications, all within a single report. Regardless of data sources being used, BusinessObjects users have access to the product's complete range of business intelligence functionality.

Powerful enterprise reporting

Business Objects gives customers the ability to automatically share, schedule, and distribute reports using multidimensional data and other data on an enterprise-wide basis. Using a three-tier architecture where report processing is offloaded to a dedicated server, Business Objects can provide customers with automatic report execution timed at regular intervals or based on predetermined business rules.

Publish and distribute reports via the web

BusinessObjects will give customers the ability to publish via the web reports based on data from these multidimensional servers and other sources, offering on-report navigation to customers via their web browsers. For web-based environments where companies need to provide their users with more robust OLAP functionality, companies can distribute these reports via the web using WebIntelligence, the company's thin-client tool for enterprise query, reporting, and OLAP.

Availability

Integration with Arbor Essbase 5.0, IBM DB2 OLAP Server 1.0, Informix MetaCube 4.0, and Oracle Express 6.1 on Solaris and NT are now available. The next major release of BusinessObjects, scheduled to enter beta development later this quarter, will provide customers with access to data within Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 OLAP Services, code named Plato.
