Business Objects appoints Cordient as a VAR in Mauritius

Johannesburg, 04 Apr 2003

Business Objects, the provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, has appointed Cordient as a distributor of its business intelligence software in Mauritius.

"Business Objects views the southern Africa region as highly strategic for our future growth," comments Gary Lawrence, country manager for Business Objects. "Our strategy has always been to partner with existing vendors in this region who understand the local environment and can add value to the business intelligence product offering, thereby assisting us to grow market share while delivering real value to the client."

Cordient is the leading data solution provider in Mauritius, offering a complete range of hardware and software solutions to help its customers manage and protect their data. Its customers include Mauritius Commercial Bank, Government Central Informatics Bureau and the Hilton hotel.

"Working closely with our customers to help them manage and protect their data, we identified a need to provide additional tools for them to use this data effectively for their businesses," comments Brian Yen of Cordient. "Business Objects is the leader in the business intelligence space, with the most comprehensive product set, providing the appropriate BI products to suit the differing requirements of different users across the enterprise. These products have proven their value in markets like Mauritius."

While the market for business intelligence solutions is still formative in the region, Cordient and Business Objects believe strongly in its growth as corporates begin to collect more data and recognise the benefits of leveraging that data to their competitive advantage.

"Organisations are just beginning to get comfortable with business intelligence tools and we expect this initial education period to spread as businesses show keen interest in leveraging their existing IT investment using business intelligence tools," explains Yen. "With the increasingly competitive market, businesses are turning to business intelligence tools to reduce costs in their operations, strengthening existing customer relationships, or identify new revenue streams through a greater insight into customer trends and behaviours."
