Business Objects named to list of most successful software companies

Independent industry analyst report shows Business Objects is one of four software companies with over 10 consecutive years of growth and profitability
Johannesburg, 11 Oct 2004

Business Objects, the world`s leading provider of () solutions, today announced that Business Objects has been named to Cape Horn Strategies` 2004 Sustained Success Honour Roll.

The list, which is produced by an independent industry analyst firm, tracks the world`s most successful companies based on long-term financial performance. The report documents the financial performance of all 573 publicly traded software companies on US stock exchanges and shows that Business Objects is one of only four software companies to have recorded over 10 consecutive years of growth and profits.

This report was released in August 2004 and is based on 2003 financial results. To view the report online, visit http://www.capehornstrategies.com/honor_roll.htm.

"For Business Objects, our remarkable track record of sustained success is due to three factors - our continued ability to lead the industry in vision and product innovation, our proven ability to help customers use business intelligence to improve business performance, and the passion and commitment from our employees, who are the best and brightest in the business intelligence industry," said Bernard Liautaud, chairman and chief executive officer of Business Objects. "Even though Business Objects is an established company with over 26 000 customers and a long history of innovation, we feel we are just at the beginning of an exciting new era, as individuals and organisations in every industry use business intelligence to improve personal and enterprise performance."

Business Objects, which played a key role in the creation of the modern day business intelligence industry with the invention of the semantic layer, has always been at the forefront of change and innovation. The semantic layer is the fundamental building block of business intelligence - it translates complex database code into the language of business, allowing non-technical individuals to easily access and analyse information that is stored in corporate databases. Business Objects also developed the industry`s first enterprise query, reporting and analysis solution for the Web with the release of WebIntelligence in 1997, which also allowed the company to pioneer the business intelligence extranet market.

In December 2003, Business Objects completed the acquisition of Crystal Decisions, the leader in enterprise reporting. Today, millions of individuals use Business Objects solutions to identify ways to help their organisation improve productivity, save money and increase revenues.

"It`s no surprise that Business Objects has been able to maintain such a consistent and successful track record," said Brian Turchin, president and founder of Cape Horn Strategies. "Sustained success is about having the right fundamentals built in the fabric of your business. For example, Business Objects has built into its culture the innovative spirit of a small start-up, an obsessive drive to satisfy customers, and a singularly clear focus on what its business is and is not. Market leadership, along with 11 consecutive years of growth and profitability, is the result of these fundamentals as well as others."
