Business packages for SMEs

As the Philippines' economy copes with the global recession, Filipino ingenuity is shifting the country's gears to a nation of successful entrepreneurs, according to Philstar.

Fast-paced information, technology, and communication make up the operation of SMEs and in hard times, it's the lack of and expense of such services that's keeping businesses from growing, if not completely fading.

As a means to resolve this dilemma facing starting “entrepinoys,” PLDT-SME Nation introduced Negosyo Boost, a service directly formed to address the needs of starting up a business.

Qatar's SMEs to benefit

A major new initiative from Qtel will offer Qatar's small business owners and managers the chance to be among the first companies in the region to learn about solutions designed specifically for their sector by Qatar's leading Telecom operator, reports Zawya.

The Qtel Business Solutions team is organising a series of specially convened workshop sessions for companies in the SME and SOHO sectors across Qatar.

According to a study from research agency Frost & Sullivan, nearly 90% of new and communications products released last year targeted the SME segment, reflecting the international interest in this sector.

iPhone apps for small businesses

BlackBerries were once the mobile phones for business professionals, but now Apple's iPhone is giving the Blackberry a run for its money, writes SME Web.

A series of applications for the iPhone are being made available all the time, from allowing users to update Twitter posts to an on-screen spirit-level governed by GPS.

Of course, it all depends on the type of business, and the on-screen spirit-level could be of more use than a currency converter.
