Business unusual as usual

With load-shedding rife in Gauteng, Praxis and Perpetual Power have combined their skills to help businesses avert the blackouts.
Johannesburg, 15 Apr 2008

Praxis' Network Infrastructure Services (NIS) department has just joined forces with Perpetual Power to combat the load-shedding issues currently experienced in Gauteng.

The project, termed Praxis Business Unusual Power Solutions, will see Perpetual Power provide uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) and Praxis supply the services to clients who need to keep their businesses running during blackouts.

According to the NIS head of department, Trevi Le Pere, UPSes are the better solution to temporary power maintenance compared to generators.

"Generators are just too expensive to run," she said, citing that fuel prices regularly increase. "It is also not a green solution, always emitting greenhouse gases."

However, Le Pere believes a UPS has little or no power issues. Whereas a generator has to be started up manually after the blackout has occurred, a UPS continues running, therefore there is no chance of losing your updates that have not been saved.

"UPSes provide continuous power and protects against power surges. It also has no monthly running costs," said Le Pere.

"The project is in line with Praxis' aim to consolidate and make strategic partnerships for 2008."
