Buying trends in Asia Pacific region

Johannesburg, 07 Jun 2007

After the frenzy of Y2K, the buying patterns in Asia have been replaced by caution from experienced CIOs scared off by failed ERP implementations costing millions of dollars.

This is true across the more developed regions of Asia and the Pacific, but business needs and buying decisions vary greatly across the Asia region.

So, what are customers demanding when they select their preferred ERP vendor? The answer in this region varies greatly among the 20 plus countries concerned.

In the less developed Asian countries, our customers may have a basic accounting system, but manufacturing and supply chain are generally controlled by spreadsheets. Even in developed countries such as Singapore, the penetration of a complete ERP covering the entire enterprise is quite low.

These customers demand that the system they select is proven and will meet their long-term needs. It must be supported locally with the flexibility to meet local requirements and it must be price competitive to each local economy.

SYSPRO's experience of more than 18 years in the South East Asia region via our channel partners and strong customer base is a strong differentiator. Feedback shows our presence in China and the simplified Chinese version of SYSPRO reinforces our commitment to the entire region and to our customers.

In Australia and the Pacific, decision time-frames have increased as customers look towards an all-encompassing solution, meeting current and future business needs. Business drivers are demanding a standardised platform capable of meeting the complete needs of an enterprise, while ensuring the implementation will be delivered on time and within budget.

The rapid consolidation of numerous ERP packages in recent years has meant that customers also look closely at long-term viability coupled with research and development of the intended ERP.

Feedback from our customers in Australia shows that SYSPRO's 28-year pedigree, single product focus, seamless product upgrades and technology platform are key.

Many customers today also require integrated solutions such as business process management (BPM), human resources and document management systems. By leveraging SYSPRO's e.net architecture, a seamless, end-to-end solution is enabled without costly re-engineering and weeks of programming.

Although buzzwords such as SOA (service-orientated architecture), SaaS (software as a service) and the many other acronyms are considered by CIOs, there is one driving factor that is common across all of Asia and the world - ROI.

The most common feedback from SYSPRO customers, be they in South East Asia or the Pacific, is the ease of use, intuitive nature and flexibility of our entire product suite. So even though there are considerable differences across the region, these core features allow for a fast implementation, training and go-live.

In short, by reducing complexity, understanding business processes and satisfying local legislative requirements, we deliver a compelling, world-class solution.
