Bytes, Cisco partner on security, access control

Johannesburg, 20 Sep 2011

Bytes Systems Integration, wholly owned by JSE-listed Altron, has partnered with Cisco to provide a joint physical security and access control solution.

“Choosing Bytes as a Cisco Physical Security partner makes good business sense for both Cisco and Bytes,” says Edward Agostinho, Cisco Systems Engineer.

“Bytes Technology Group is a Cisco Gold certified partner, with excellent skills in Cisco. Bytes has a huge customer base, and this allows the group to further its Cisco product offerings to these and new customers. Bytes is also the sole distributor for the Kronos Time and Attendance solution, which works hand-in-hand with any access control solution.”

Cisco's Physical Security products are only available through partners that partake in Cisco's Authorised Technology Provider programme (ATP). The programme identifies, qualifies, trains and enables a select set of Cisco channel partners to provide solution services. Bytes has been skilled up in both Cisco's Video Surveillance and its Physical Access Control products. This uniquely differentiates Bytes in these markets.

Although Cisco Physical Security solutions are IP-based, they offer customers the ability to migrate from traditional analogue CCTV to modern intelligent IP video surveillance systems, without requiring a forklift of their existing analogue cameras.

The Cisco Video Surveillance solution is made up of IP-based cameras (both standard definition and high definition, analogue camera encoder modules and storage systems). Cisco IP Video Surveillance offers scalable, reliable and innovative ways of managing a corporate video surveillance environment.

The Cisco Physical Access Control solution consists of Cisco Physical Access Gateways, which connect to door locks, door sensors, card readers and more, and communicate with the Cisco Physical Access Manager, which is a Linux-based server component.

The Cisco Physical Access Manager may be centralised in a data centre, providing customers with the ability to have multiple sites running on a single access control head-end solution.

CCTV sales and technical analyst Johan Crause says: “This is a very exciting time for Bytes CCTV and Cisco, and we see this partnership delivering major value to customers and both parties.”

In addition, Cisco's Video Surveillance and Access Control solution provides commercial off-the-shelf integration capabilities, delivering a robust and intelligent physical security solution, as opposed to isolated multi-vendor implementations.

“We will be jointly targeting the education, transport, healthcare, finance and retail markets,” says Agostinho. “We have also had great successes in the safety and security and mining markets.”

The companies have jointly targeted a number of key customer prospects.
