Bytes Document Solutions appoints Prosys as Angolan partner

Johannesburg, 02 Jun 2009

Bytes Document Solutions, distributor of Xerox products and solutions to 24 African countries, has appointed Prosys Angola as its new distributor in the country.

In 2002, Angola emerged from civil war that had ravaged the country since 1975 when it won its independence from Portugal, and has since been rebuilding its shattered economy.

“Banking, construction and education are booming since the end of the war and these services are now starting to penetrate the outlying regions,” says Luis da Silva, CEO of Prosys. “With companies opening in even the smallest villages, our potential market is growing too. The professional printing business is in its infancy, but we expect significant growth.”

Da Silva says the potential growth of the professional printing industry depends on the maturity of those other key industries.

Coenraad Ackerman, Africa operations manager at Bytes Document Solutions, says: “Finding a partner such as Prosys to represent Bytes Document Solutions in an emerging economy such as Angola is crucial to our future growth. We need experts on the ground, and Prosys has demonstrated its operational success in Angola to us prior to its appointment. In a short time the company has built a solid and reliable track record of delivering the quality of products, solutions and services that both Bytes Document Solutions and Xerox customers have come to expect.”

Da Silva says initial sales will come from the bottom and top ends of the market, but the lucrative middle segment of the market will only mature in five years or more.

After decades of war, Angola must rebuild its infrastructure and skilled workforce from the ground up.

“Without a mature group of professionals and their associated businesses filling out the middle segment of the market, and with the government keen to build those skills by developing Angolans as opposed to importing those skills, it will be some time before we can reasonably expect that sector to represent a significant opportunity for us,” says Da Silva.

Prosys operates out of the capital, Luanda, from offices on Ho Chi Min Avenue with a staff that extends its sales, service and support expertise throughout the country.
