Bytes Document Solutions boosts BBBEE rating to Level 2

Johannesburg, 20 Jul 2010

Bytes Document Solutions, the authorised Xerox distributor to 27 African countries, has been noted as one of the most empowered office automation companies in South Africa, after being audited by Empowerdex, an accredited verification agency.

The company has improved its BEE status from a Level 3 to a Level 2 Contributor, as well as being a Value-Adding Enterprise.

"We have worked hard for several years to achieve this rating," says Ria Fleetwood, divisional director - Human Resources at Bytes Document Solutions, “and continue to make progress every year in support of sustainable development and supporting the Altron Group's Vision 2012. We have achieved the Altron group's BBEEE target of achieving Level 2 status by 2012 two years ahead of time."

The improved rating was achieved in June and comes on the back of a surge in compliance with the DTI's Codes of Good Practice, and the Level 2 Plus Value-Adding Enterprise status allows customers to claim R156.25 for every R100 spent with the company towards their own BBBEE preferential procurement score.

During the past year, Bytes Document Solutions registered a significant improvement in its Skills Development score, with learnerships for previously disadvantaged employees. The company continues to score full marks for social economic development and enterprise development by supporting black-empowered companies that it established, some as far back as 1999. Preferential procurement in terms of supporting small black and black women-owned businesses remains a priority.

Bytes Document Solutions has the full support of Xerox in its broad-based black economic empowerment efforts. Ursula Burns recently became the first black woman to head up a major listed corporation in the US. In addition, Xerox has been named as one of the most diverse corporations in the world, and one of the best in terms of employing women.

LaserCom, along with PaperGeni, a Bytes Document Solutions division and South Africa's leading direct marketing, variable print, mail processing and envelope manufacturing specialist, retains its Level 2 Contributor and Value-Adding Supplier status.
