Bytes Technology Group has extended its five-year partnership with US-based NCR, to bring a broader range of solutions into Africa.
NCR and Bytes subsidiary Bytes Managed Solutions have been working together in SA for over 35 years and Bytes has installed about 60% of SA's ATMs through the partnership.
Yesterday, the companies announced they had extended a five-year agreement that will allow Bytes to offer a much wider range of NCR solutions to its customers in SA and neighbouring countries.
Altron CEO Robbie Venter says the extension of the partnership will allow Bytes, an Altron subsidiary, to adapt leading-edge technologies to the specific needs of SA.
“As a group, we understand the unique requirements in SA and across the African continent. We have a long history of partnering successfully with leading global companies and of combining this with our skills, experience, and our large services infrastructure to drive innovation in meeting fast-changing consumer needs,” says Venter.
New technologies
Bytes offers the banking sector NCR's next-generation SelfServ Intelligent Deposit ATMs, which enables customers to pay in cash and conduct bill payments, without having to stand in queues.
Bytes will also focus on NCR APTRA software, which helps banks to integrate online and mobile channel with the ATM channel.
The integration also enables customers to send money to another party using cellphones, which can then be withdrawn at an ATM. Bytes expects these services to play a key role in providing financial services to the under-banked and unbanked.
Bytes, which also supplies retail checkout technology, will now also offer NCR's retail and hospitality solutions, such as point-of-sale terminals, NCR SelfServ Checkout terminals, NCR kiosks, as well as NCR Netkey digital signage and kiosk software solution.
“Africa is strategically important to NCR and our agreement with Bytes is a clear signal of our commitment to provide technology solutions that enable South African companies to reach more customers and deliver an exceptional experience,” says Bill Nuti, chairman and CEO of NCR.
“In SA, we believe this growing consumer expectation creates a timely opportunity for companies to engage and serve their customers in a highly-efficient way using the scale and breadth of our technologies,” he adds.
NCR's solutions have been implemented in retail, financial, travel, healthcare, hospitality, entertainment, gaming and public sector organisations in more than 100 countries. The company introduced the first cash register in 1874.
