JSE-listed Bytes Technology Group (BTG) is pleased to announce that it has cracked the number 10 slot in the overall annual Financial Mail Top Empowerment Companies rankings, and measured fourth in the ICT industry.
The survey ranks the top 200 JSE-listed companies in terms of their contributions to broad-based black economic empowerment (BEE) in 2005, and was done in partnership with the economic empowerment rating agency Empowerdex.
Says Skip Franzsen, group human resources director at BTG: "We are delighted to have been ranked so highly in this year`s survey. It is testimony to all of our efforts at BTG and proves that the work we have been doing over the last three years towards gearing up our BEE efforts is being noticed and rewarded."
The results are based on stringent criteria taken from the various BEE charters as prescribed by government which is currently either in place or in draft form.
The survey followed seven main criteria which make up the broad-based scorecard which, according to Financial Mail, has been outlined by the DTI as the overarching measurement tool for BEE. The raw data was collected and analysed by Empowerdex.
According to Franzsen, BTG has not only worked hard on its BEE shareholding but it has also concentrated on becoming a BEE employer of choice. "We are particularly proud of our skills development programmes as well as our CSI investment into the community," states Franzsen.
"We have many ongoing projects aimed at bridging the digital divide such as our efforts at a school in Orange Farm last year, where we outfitted the entire school with a state-of-the-art multimedia centre, and a similar project at a school in Langa, Cape Town which we will open next week. In addition, we have also adopted several schools in Tembisa."
The seven criteria against which companies were measured include: ownership, management, employment equity, skills development, procurement, enterprise development and residual element. BTG scored very highly in ownership, skills development, enterprise development and received a 10 out of 10 for CSI.
