Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) has announced the general release of CA-IDMS 15.0, its database management system for the OS/390 and z/OS platforms. Release 15.0 maximizes availability and scalability of e-business applications with advanced cross-system data sharing that exploits the OS/390 Parallel Sysplex environment.
CA-IDMS 15.0 accommodates escalating enterprise e-business workloads and provides system-tailoring flexibility and enhanced system utilization. Application users benefit from system fault-tolerance because data sharing enables database updates to occur even while a CA-IDMS system is offline for maintenance.
British Telecommunications plc (BT), one of the world`s leading communications companies, realized up to 10% savings in CPU-per-transaction with CA-IDMS 15.0 in tests on its Customer Service System (CSS) application. In production, CSS processes 200 million transactions per day and is one of the largest and most demanding CA-IDMS applications in the world. It is placed near the top in the Winter Corporation Database Scalability Program across all platforms, in database size, workload, and number of database records.
System availability is significantly extended in CA-IDMS 15.0 with new features that let administrators dynamically adjust key system resources to address increased workloads, while the system remains active. In addition, CA-IDMS 15.0 provides for automated "hot" database backups, expedited recovery, and simplified installation and maintenance.
"CA-IDMS is the database of choice for thousands of organizations that demand serious application performance to support their e-business requirements, including some of the most data-intensive operations in the world," said Louis Grosskopf, senior vice president, Enterprise Server Solutions, CA.
Future versions of CA-IDMS will continue to address companies` evolving e-business requirements.
In conjunction with this announcement, CA also announced CA-IDMS Server Release 4.3. The new release provides broader web platform support, with the introduction of OS/390 UNIX services for Java applications and servlets. These features allow CA-IDMS Server users wider and more scalable Web access.
