CA announces IBM`s use of AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler

Johannesburg, 10 Dec 2001

Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) today announced that IBM has used AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler to conduct a study and produce a white paper on data modelling techniques for Linux environments on IBM eServer z900 and S/390 hardware.

According to the study, AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler, CA`s industry-leading data modelling solution, is analysed for reverse and forward engineering the DB2 Universal Database (UBD) for Linux running on the z900 and S/390 platforms. The study was reported in a paper written by Eliuth Pomar of IBM`s Poughkeepsie software development lab, with contributions from CA.

AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler creates and maintains databases and data warehouses, as well as enterprise data resource models. In addition, it can visualise data structures in order to help organise, manage and even mitigate the complexities of data, database technologies, and the deployment environment. "This study by IBM continues to underscore the leadership and strength of AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler as a cross-platform and cross-database modelling and design tool," said Gregory Clancy, brand manager, application lifecycle management, CA.

The paper, which complements IBM`s existing DB2 UDB documentation, describes how to achieve a working environment between DB2 UDB and AllFusion Erwin products. "This study concluded that Erwin Data Modeler is an effective data modelling product for DB2 UDB running on the Linux environment, on IBM`s latest z900 and S/390 platforms," said Pomar.

The study documented the success of AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler in reverse engineering a DB2 UDB database running on Linux for the eServer z900 and S/390. In addition, a database with referential integrity constraints was forward engineered to test consistencies between AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler and DB2 UDB on Linux for the z900 and S/390. Results of the tests indicated that AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler also successfully accomplished forward engineering of the database.

The study, documented in the IBM paper entitled Linux/390 DB2 UDB and Erwin Case Study is available online at: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/os/linux/ldt/pdf/db2erwin.pdf.
