Drive Control Corporation will distribute the latest version of Computer Associates` (CA`s) anti-spyware product, which is aimed at home users, SMEs and corporates.
CA security consultant Tony Da Costa says businesses are no longer solely preoccupied with threats posed by viruses, as new and more malicious non-viral Trojans - spyware and adware - are stealing company information and degrading network speeds and Internet access.
CA`s eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware (release 5) is available as a corporate or a standalone package, Da Costa says.
He says the product offers faster detection and removal than the previous version, as well as an enhanced graphical interface.
Da Costa says, according to research, there are 93 different known types of spyware, and 90% of all Windows PCs in SA are infected. He says 88% of owners of infected systems are not aware of the infections, while 75% of PC owners believe they are safe from online threats.
"Spyware can account for up to 70% of all e-mail spam and only about 24% of PC owners are actually knowledgeable about how to handle spyware, which has been around since the 1980s," he states.
He notes that PestPatrol Anti-Spyware is backed by the CA Security Advisor, which provides vulnerability and configuration research, as well as monitoring and protection against malicious code, spyware/adware and blended threats.
