CA delivers comprehensive virus protection for EMC`s NAS solution

Johannesburg, 10 Oct 2001

Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) has announced the integration of its eTrust Antivirus with EMC`s new Celerra Anti-Virus Solution, providing customers with comprehensive, easy-to-manage enterprise-level anti-virus protection for their critical EMC network-attached storage (NAS) resources.

The integration enables "on-access" virus scanning of data and content files stored on the Celerra File Server as they are updated. This provides maximum protection of business-critical information, without impeding performance.

"EMC customers need anti-virus technology that`s effective and that functions as part of their total security strategy," said Don Swatik, vice president of alliances and information sciences, EMC. "With CA`s integration of eTrust Antivirus and Celerra through EMC`s E-Infostructure Developer`s Program, mutual customers can easily extend their investments in CA`s anti-virus technology to the entire enterprise."

CA`s acclaimed anti-virus technology delivers scalable, field-proven, 100% detection of viruses with real-time scanning and automatic cure for continual protection. Just as important, eTrust Antivirus provides simplified, automated management of updates and event logging across heterogeneous enterprise environments, allowing security staff to administer virus protection for their EMC Celerra File Servers as an integrated part of their broader overall security processes.

EMC Celerra File Server users benefit from the around-the-clock backing of CA`s eTrust global anti-virus research for immediate response to new virus threats. For users of CA`s anti-virus solutions, the Celerra integration seamlessly plugs into the organisation`s eTrust Antivirus implementation, allowing for cross-enterprise anti-virus policy management and signature distribution.

Through EMC`s E-Infostructure Developers Program, CA has access to a wide range of EMC`s programming interfaces, enabling seamless interoperability that combines the technology expertise of both companies to better protect and leverage customers` critical information infrastructures.

eTrust Antivirus is one of 17 security software products within the eTrust family. The unmatched breadth and sophistication of the eTrust product family - which includes certificate management, risk assessment, attack detection, and loss prevention - enable management teams to defend, administer access, and ensure the management and security of complex e-business environments, on virtually every platform, from the desktop to the mainframe. eTrust software solutions are also compliant with established and emerging security industry standards, ensuring interoperability with existing internal security mechanisms and those of e-business trading partners.
