CA forms CA Technology Services to create streamlined, effective customer experience

Combines pre-sales technical and professional services organisations

Computer Associates International, Inc today announced the formation of CA Technology Services, a new organisation that will more effectively position, prove and deliver CA solutions to customers while significantly improving the company`s operational efficiency.

The new unit, headed by Senior Vice-President and General Manager Una O`Neill, combines CA`s pre-sales technical and professional services organisations. It will work closely with the company`s sales force to promote teamwork, provide a seamless interface to customers and ensure unimpeded access to CA`s rich technical skills. The new structure, which also encompasses customer education, will accelerate time-to-benefit and optimise the magnitude of those benefits.

"With the beginning of our 2004 fiscal year today, it is the opportune time to implement changes to improve our businesses and overall customer experience," said Sanjay Kumar, CA chairman and chief executive officer.

"The formation of CA Technology Services is yet another step in our determined effort to be the most customer-focused and efficient competitor in the software industry. Over the past two years, we have been redefining everything about our business and clarifying roles and responsibilities in a way that clearly puts customers at the centre of everything we do. Now, more than ever, we are committed to quickly and efficiently delivering the solutions and services customers require to maximise the value from their technology investments."

As part of the new charter of the organisation, CA is reaffirming its previously announced strategy to focus its services offerings exclusively on support of CA solutions. The company added that it will continue to honour all existing customer engagements on non-CA solutions.

CA`s pre-sales technical teams work with customers to understand their business needs and develop a solution strategy for meeting those requirements. The company`s professional services teams facilitate implementation, monitor results, and make recommendations to optimise the benefits of CA`s software.

"Unifying these teams ensures the continuity of the technical care of our customers throughout the project lifecycle," said O`Neill, who previously headed the company`s pre-sales technical organisation. "This will significantly compress delivery times and maximise the quality of the completed solution. It builds on the significant advances we have made with our new business model and our FlexSelect licensing, both of which are setting standards for our industry."

In addition to establishing the new unit, CA is restructuring its channel organisation in North America to provide more business opportunities to channel partners and to further empower the channel as a primary route-to-market for its eTrust, BrightStor and AllFusion brands.

As a result of the combining of the pre-sales technical and professional services organisations and the restructuring of the North American channel organisation, the company will eliminate approximately 450 positions worldwide. The staff eliminations will occur immediately in North America and will happen over the next several months in other parts of the world. Affected employees will receive enhanced severance packages including benefits continuation and outplacement services.

CA`s newly realigned reseller field account management team will cooperatively build and execute business plans with channel partners to enhance the scope and effectiveness of their business strategies. CA also is hiring sales specialists to generate more qualified leads for channel partners and is building highly advanced marketing systems and processes to support its partners.

"As a result of the changes announced today, we`re now offering customers an enhanced and simplified field technical experience and an enhanced and simplified multi-channel sales experience," Kumar continued. "And, it all fits perfectly with our FlexSelect business model which gives customers far more choice and faster return on their investments in CA technology."
