Computer Associates Global Professional Services(GPS) has introduced Express Delivery, a powerful, automated project methodology for GPS professionals that can significantly accelerate and enhance deployments of large-scale information technology projects.
Initially intended for deployments of CA`s Unicenter TNG, Express Delivery is extensible to integration services, including ERP rollouts, deployment of electronic commerce solutions, and other sophisticated IT implementations. Express Delivery is a component of GPS`s unique Accelerated Delivery strategy, which streamlines the introduction of new technologies into existing enterprise IT environments.
"Successful application deployments require the correct utilisation of knowledge, the consistent application of technology and the appropriate management of the available resources," said Andre van den Berg, manager of Global Professional Services for Computer Associates Africa. "Express Delivery helps ensure that all three of these critical requirements are met by leveraging CA`s extensive expertise and experience in the deployment of advanced technology. We can deliver solutions to our clients up to twice as fast as our competition."
Express Delivery is designed to meet the needs of implementation team members, project managers and project sponsors - enabling all three to effectively communicate with each other throughout the project life-cycle. It consists of three primary components: a project modelling tool, a project task monitor/workflow engine, and a graphical user interface for the project team.
Express Delivery is an example of CA`s strategy to leverage its technology strengths in such areas as enterprise management and multimedia database development through a combination of services and practices that provide corporate customers with a complete technology implementation solution," said van den Berg.
"This strategy should be appealing in light of the continuing emphasis on rapid solutions delivery in the midst of an intense shortage of skilled IT staff." Express Delivery can enhance enterprise deployments by:
Providing an effective automated project management software solution
Applying best project management practices
Improving communication within the project team
Reducing the time and effort associated with creating project process flow design
Improving the tracking of project tasks and milestones
Providing automated alerting for project life-cycle events
"CA`s Express Delivery promises to help organisations such as ours overcome the limitations of geography and conflicting schedules that often lead to delays or communications problems in complex projects," said John Cortina, vice president of technology services at Pearson Technology Centre, a subsidiary of Pearson PLC. "Its flexible workflow engine design appears to be extremely adaptable to the diverse range of multi-discipline integration projects we`re typically called upon to handle."
Express Delivery helps ensure that all implementation tasks and activities are accurately accounted for in project plans. It also provides up-to-the-moment graphical reporting on project status to all interested parties. All relevant documents and data are stored in a single, easily accessible repository - allowing for easy modification of the project by other technicians. Workflow tools, such as automatic e-mail notification and "triggered" task launch, keep team members on track and alert managers when resources are unnecessarily idle.
GPS offers a broad spectrum of IT services in dozens of disciplines including infrastructure management, application development and integration, Y2K compliance services, asset management, deskside support, and end-user productivity. Services range from consulting to implementation, to comprehensive outsourcing and facilities management. GPS has its headquarters in Islandia, N.Y. and has offices in North and South America, Europe and the Far East.
