"The growing scope and complexity of IT-related can easily and adversely impact a business, which is why we need a comprehensive and resource-efficient enterprise security management solution," says Russell Artzt, executive VP of Computer Associates` (CA) eTrust security brand.

He was announcing the launch of two new security products, eTrust Vulnerability Manager and eTrust Security Command Centre, at CAWorld in Las Vegas.

"eTrust Vulnerability Manager is a rack-mountable security management appliance that automatically discovers business-critical and pinpoints vulnerabilities that threaten the integrity of enterprise IT environments," he said.

Powered by a continuously updated knowledge base of more than 6 000 vulnerabilities, eTrust Vulnerability Manager ensures computing infrastructures can be effectively monitored for even the most recently discovered system vulnerabilities and that the most up-to-date configuration standards are maintained.

"By freeing security managers from tracking the latest security advisories and verifying enterprise compliance, the product strengthens security implementations and allows technicians to focus on more strategic issues," said Artzt.

"Through its asset-based 'inside-out` approach to vulnerability detection, Vulnerability Manager can accurately identify critical assets, including operating systems, applications and databases, down to the individual patch level.

"An asset-to-vulnerability correlation generates a prioritised task list complete with step-by-step remediation instructions, reducing the cost and complexity of managing vulnerabilities."

Artzt also announced a complementary product, eTrust Security Command Centre, which is designed to empower organisations to greatly reduce risk by proactively managing the complexities of their security operations.

"By integrating security management under a common point-of-control, this product aggregates, correlates and prioritises the overwhelming quantity of disparate security data generated across an enterprise, enabling organisations to protect their information infrastructures with optimal effectiveness and efficiency."

He noted that enterprise security administrators are often inundated with millions of messages and events daily, and even a single security incident can generate thousands of messages.

This 'security information overload` makes it nearly impossible to prioritise events and determine the level of attention they require.

"Security information overload can be just as dangerous as not having enough security information but by intelligently prioritising security events based on their potential impact to business operations, the Security Command Centre makes it possible for organisations to pinpoint and respond to critical security incidents in real-time.

"In conjunction with eTrust Vulnerability Manager, eTrust Security Command Centre helps ensure that customers immediately respond to any and all emerging vulnerabilities as soon as they are identified."
