CA names Alan F Nugent as chief technology officer

Samuel Greenblatt named to new position of SVP, innovation

CA, one of the world`s largest IT management software companies, today announced that Alan F Nugent has been appointed chief technology officer. The appointment is effective immediately.

"Al Nugent has extensive experience as a chief technology officer and for the past year, as senior vice-president and general manager of our Enterprise Systems Management Business Unit, has been a prime driver of CA`s industry-leading enterprise IT management (EITM) vision," said John Swainson, CA president and chief executive officer. "In his new role, he will oversee CA`s technology vision and strategy and assure the company`s solutions are built on common technology architecture."

Nugent, 51, will continue to head the Enterprise Systems Management Business Unit until a successor is named.

Prior to joining CA, Nugent was senior vice-president and CTO at Novell, where he spearheaded the company`s move into open source and identity-driven solutions.

Nugent has also served as chief technologist and chief software architect for BellSouth Corporation; senior vice-president, CTO and CIO at American Re Insurance Co; and was vice-president of software development and CTO at Xerox. He began his career at HP.

In the new position of senior vice-president, innovation, Samuel Greenblatt, 55, is responsible for overseeing intellectual property, government technical standards, open standards, open systems, research and CA Labs. He reports to Swainson.

He most recently was senior vice-president, technology, where he worked with the company`s executive management team to help formulate CA`s strategic technology direction. Previously, he was the chief architect for the Linux Technology Group at CA. He joined CA in 1994 from Candle Corp where, as vice-president and CTO, he managed key software application projects in communications, distributed processing, applications and development tools.
