Johannesburg, 01 Feb 2006

CA has announced that Mark Barrenechea has been named executive vice-president and chief technology officer (CTO), reporting to CA president and chief executive officer John Swainson.

In addition, Yogesh Gupta, who has served as CTO since August 2000, has been named senior vice-president of business development, reporting to CA executive vice-president of strategy and business development Michael Christenson.

"With a focus on driving advanced research and innovation, Mark and his team will play a key role in ensuring that CA delivers on its vision for simplifying and unifying the management of IT for its customers," said Swainson.

"I`m excited Yogesh is joining our acquisition team. His industry and technical knowledge will be an asset to the team and ensure that our acquisitions continue to broaden our overall product portfolio and make CA even more competitive in the marketplace."

In his new role, Barrenechea will lead the office of the CTO and define CA`s technology vision and strategy, and work closely with the business units to ensure a common technology architecture and services across the company`s products. In addition, he will oversee an Advanced Research Group focused on CA solutions for emerging technologies, such as RFID, and liaison with universities on research.

As senior vice-president for business development, Gupta will spearhead the company`s technology analysis of acquisitions, with a focus on addressing customer needs and how solutions integrate into CA`s overall product portfolio.

Over the past 18 months, CA has made 10 acquisitions for $1.6 billion primarily in the areas of enterprise systems management and security management.
