CA releases free cleanup utility for malicious Windows worm

Johannesburg, 20 Aug 2003

In response to the Win32.Poza worm - also known as Lovsan and Msblast - Computer Associates` Virus Information Centre has issued a free cleanup utility that also works for non-eTrust customers.

Win32.Poza exploits Microsoft Windows vulnerability and has already spread to thousands of computers worldwide, including SA. What makes the worm so malicious is that searches online for PCs with a security glitches and then installs itself via the Internet.

CA`s cleanup utility, ClnPoza.zip, is especially useful for those who don`t use the company`s anti-virus solutions, or who may be using products based on older technology that does not support system cleaning.

Detection for the worm has also been added to the company`s eTrust anti-virus solutions. Customers must, therefore, make sure they install the latest relevant update to ensure protection.

To download the ClnPoza.zip, please go to: http://www3.ca.com/solutions/collateral.asp?CT=27081&CID=48952.
