CA supports first rugby team at Ho"erskool Oosterlig

Johannesburg, 16 Aug 2004

Boksburg`s Ho"erskool Oosterlig has enjoyed success on the rugby field this year, thanks to its first team reaching the semi-finals of the Falcons League (previously the Eastern Transvaal Rugby Union league) for schools.

The team, led by captain Anton Nienaber and vice-captain Jacques Bouma, also attracted corporate support in the form of sponsorship from software giant Computer Associates (CA).

CA is also the supporter of the Australian Brumbies Super 12 team and according to spokesperson Dolf Snyman, is a keen rugby supporting company.

"The Ho"erskool Oosterlig`s team is the first recipient of Computer Associates` grass-roots level sponsorship in SA," he says.

"We are proud of their success. This year the team gave a good account of itself in the local inter-school league, and the 26 players were, individually, excellent role models for their peers."

According to headmaster, Pieda van Vreden, the team has benefited significantly from the CA sponsorship, not only from a financial perspective, but also from being part of the broader CA rugby-loving and supporting community in the Southern Hemisphere.

"The support goes beyond being a branding exercise for CA," adds Van Vreden. "It underlines CA`s commitment to the local community, to the sport of rugby and to the development of the youth. We are grateful for their backing."
