CA supports MS Windows XP Service Pack 2 with automated anti-virus, firewall management

Johannesburg, 11 Aug 2004

Computer Associates International, Inc today announced its support for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) with Advanced Security Technologies with new features in its popular eTrust security management solutions to protect desktops from virus and network threats.

The new features work with SP2`s Windows Security Centre, to help ensure that desktop virus protection is kept up-to-date and activated, while also helping users keep the Windows Firewall optimally configured.

These features have been incorporated into both eTrust Antivirus and consumer eTrust EZ Antivirus, in order to meet the needs of CA`s enterprise, SMB and consumer customers.

"As the world`s leading provider of security management solutions, CA is working closely with Microsoft to help ensure that its customers reap the full benefits of Windows XP SP2," said Toby Weiss, CA senior vice-president, eTrust Security Management Solutions.

"Both our enterprise eTrust Antivirus and our consumer eTrust EZ Antivirus solutions interoperate with the native security features of Windows to help ensure that users` desktops have complete, up-to-date virus signatures and that their security mechanisms are appropriately configured to provide maximum protection against both malware and network-based threats."

Windows XP helps unlock the true power of the PC - giving customers the freedom to work the way they want while taking advantage of an exciting array of new experiences. With advanced productivity tools and a platform that is easier to deploy, manage and support, Windows XP helps make an organisation`s computing environment more efficient than ever before.

Windows XP SP2 with Advanced Security Technologies brings users of Windows XP the latest security enhancements and innovations from Microsoft. It establishes stronger default security settings and automatically installs unique new security features that will help better protect computers from hackers, viruses and other security risks.

Plus, Service Pack 2 contains support for new technologies, such as WiFi and Bluetooth, along with improved hardware and driver support to create a more productive, hassle-free computing experience.

"Microsoft is pleased to be working with CA to make it easier and more intuitive for our customers to become more secure," said Neil Charney, director, Windows Product Management at Microsoft Corp. "The Windows Security Center feature of SP2 provides users the ability to automatically check the status of essential security functionality and CA`s support of Windows XP SP2 is an important step in helping customers get the latest security updates and features for their PCs."
