Cabinet nod for DTI codes

The Cabinet has approved the Department of Trade and Industry`s (DTI`s) Codes of Good Practice, submitted on Wednesday.

"The codes were not only submitted but also approved by the Cabinet," says DTI team assistant Zameka Stungu. "Now the department is waiting for the Cabinet to provide a date, as to when the codes can be gazetted for pubic comment and recommendations."

The DTI`s black economic empowerment (BEE) chief director, Polo Radebe together with deputy director-general Lionel October, presented the codes to the Cabinet on Wednesday.

The DTI`s codes are expected to be applied in the development, evaluation, and monitoring of BEE charters, including the ICT Charter.

This is also subsequent to earlier recommendations by industry stakeholders, that the ICT charter`s codes be closely aligned with the DTI`s codes, to assist those industries regulated by both sets of guidelines.

Earlier this week Stungu told ITWeb that the final codes are expected to be in operation sometime next year.
