In one of the most aggressive marketing moves yet by Cabletron, the company is offering to trade in discontinued 3ComCoreBuilder switches for Cabletron solutions at R 6000 per port.
A range of trade-in options for other products on 3Com`s extensive "end of life" product list will also be offered.
This announcement provides 3Com customers with the clearest alternative technology path following 3Com`s recent organisational changes, says Martin May, Cabletron Systems SA country manager.
The offer, which is valid until 31 August 2000 in South Africa, represents a significant potential investment by Cabletron in the local marketplace and gives 3Com users the alternative of a viable long-term technology partner, says May.
Cabletron SA is also going beyond the organisation`s US and European market strategy by offering rental deals to South African 3Com users allowing them to optimise their operational budgets to fund the replacement of entire 3Com network infrastructures with Cabletron solutions.
"Because Cabletron products are supported by the LANcare scheme - a lifetime, on-site two-hour swap-out warranty - the Cabletron channel can offer a more cost-effective maintenance option to 3Com users," explains May.
Additionally, for 3Com users who choose a phased strategy for migrating to a Cabletron (or any other vendor`s) platform, Cabletron is offering its Spectrum network management solution which is capable of dealing with a mixed vendor environment in a transparent and homogenous manner.
"Our products and network management solutions have clear roadmaps and the most comprehensive support which we believe will bring reassurance to 3Com customers who are now looking to partner with a long term player in the enterprise market," he adds.
