The strategic services agreement, announced earlier between Cabletron Systems and Unisys Corporation, in terms of which Unisys will deliver on-site services for Cabletron`s entire internetworking hardware and software solutions portfolio, will have an impact on the South African marketplace.
Martin May, country manager of Cabletron Systems SA, says the alliance will help ensure the continual availability to customers of network resources required for electronic business and other mission-critical enterprise applications.
"The agreement has global reach", confirms May. "In South Africa as in the rest of the world Unisys will provide a full range of services including maintenance, installation, and moves/adds/changes on 24-by-7 basis.
Cabletron SA will leverage the Unisys global service delivery network to augment its own support infrastructure in South Africa.
"As a leading provider of network integration and managed services, Unisys provides customers with responsive on-site support services to maximise network availability.
"As networks gain prominence as strategic business assets, network availability is increasingly critical - and downtime is intolerable," says May.
"Both Cabletron and Unisys are committed to implementing and supporting the industry`s most advanced networking communications solutions, with particular expertise in the design, implementation, and support of high-speed routed networks, as well as the latest advanced technology enabled services."
May adds that by teaming with Unisys, a proven leader in the design, implementation, and support of critical networks for electronic business, Cabletron will provide a valuable new support resource for customers."
Globally, the Cabletron relationship is managed through the Unisys Strategic Service Partnership programme. Unisys provides its Strategic Service Partners the opportunity to offer a wide range of services around the world - without having to build or buy their own expanded service capability. The programme offers electronic access to a single world-wide service call tracking, management and logistics information system as well as a marketing support initiative.
