Call for ICT achievers nominations

By Itumeleng Mogaki, ITWeb junior journalist

Nominations are now open for the eighth annual African ICT Achievers Awards, which recognise top African ICT individuals and companies.

Research and consulting services company ForgeAhead invites nominations for individuals or organisations that have brought about an ICT innovation that improved the lives of citizens and assisted in narrowing the divide.

"Critical in the nomination process is the fact that we are searching for high-calibre ICT professionals who deserve recognition and reward for the impact they have had," says ForgeAhead MD Jane Mosebi.

"There is no limit to how many times you nominate a person, but the number of nominations does not really have an impact on the adjudication process."

Mosebi explains that once nominated, a person is asked to submit a CV, and this is used for the first leg of adjudication, which is carried out online. Nominees are judged on the information they provide in their CV and not the number of times they were nominated in a specific category.

She says the awards will again focus on highlighting the achievements in the ICT sector across the continent. "Our efforts are underpinned by our new theme, 'ICT Achievement - Making the African Century a Reality`.

"Being an achiever goes a lot further than just receiving a trophy," says Mosebi. "In 2005, the top educator was awarded a tele-container containing networked computers, a printer, a generator and other equipment to donate to a school in Africa."

Lizelle Christison, marketing and communications manager at ForgeAhead, says the panel of adjudicators is being finalised. "We have a number of high-profile adjudicators such as Gillian Marcelle from Technology for Development, Faouzi Zaghbib from the Tunisian IT Chamber and Gideon Chonia from the University of Zurich."
