Call centres are hot, says AiC Worldwide, organiser of the Call Centres Africa `99 exhibition held at the MTN Sundome this week.
The event attracted a record turnout. "Our target for this year`s event was to have similar figures to the 2 800 of last year. However, we estimate that close to 3 500 visitors attended the show over the course of the three days," says Tracy Freeman, head of operations for AiC Worldwide.
AiC attributes the success of this year`s event to the fact that companies are more focused on implementing call centre solutions than in the past.
"Call centre technology was still relatively new to the market last year," notes Freeman. "However, I believe that companies have become increasingly aware of how call centre solutions can benefit them and are now ready to implement these solutions."
Mark Payne, Quintus Call Centres Solutions, agrees: "We have definitely experienced a higher degree of urgency from visitors. During the course of one morning, we have had requests from several large companies to provide them with complete solutions within a short period of time."
Jorge de Nebrega, Software Futures, believes the increasing interest in the call centre market is reflected in the strong competition among exhibitors.
"I think that one of the things we learned from the exhibition is that the market has definitely shown us the increasing demand for call centre technology," he says.
