Camsoft says Amnesty working well

Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2003

Local Maximizer business partner Camsoft Solutions has come out in support of the Maximizer amnesty offer, saying numerous organisations have already taken advantage of the amnesty deal.

"Unfortunately the nature of the software business is that piracy does occur, especially with a popular CRM product such as Maximizer, and the amnesty deal on offer by Maximizer is allowing these users the opportunity to legitimise their software without being prosecuted," comments Mark Annett, Maximizer product manager at Camsoft.

"It is not unusual to find end-users who have purchased Maximizer products in the past in the belief that they were legitimate, only to find that the same product had been licensed to numerous different organisations," continues Annett.

"We are also receiving numerous anonymous tip-offs which will only be investigated after the amnesty has ended. This is why it is important for users who are uncertain of the legitimacy of their Maximizer installations to at least submit their details for the amnesty to determine the status of their software, and if necessary, gain exemption from any action that may be taken against them in the future," adds Annett.

The Maximizer amnesty offer runs from 10 November 2003 to 28 November 2003 and is open to any user in SA who discovers that their Maximizer software is illegal. Any end-users who submit their details as part of the amnesty will be advised whether their serial number is in use by another end-user and sent a confirmation that their serial number has been registered. These users will also have their existing number fully registered to them and will be exempt from action for their use of this number. A new serial number will not be issued unless the user upgrades to the latest version of the software which they are able to do at a special discounted price that is only available for the duration of the amnesty. The user will also be advised that if they extend their usage (add further unlicensed users or unauthorised upgrades to later versions), then they will not be exempt from future action.

Users are also advised that they should ask anyone representing Maximizer from a business partner to produce their authorisation ID to ensure they are authorised to provide services. Users will also receive industry advice on software copyright.
