Canadian healthcare centre slammed

A recently released audit of Cancer Care Ontario shows the provincial agency suffered from many of the same problems that plagued troubled eHealth Ontario, reports The Canadian Press.

The report, conducted by auditors at the Canadian Ministry of Finance, claims Cancer Care's "procurement processes, file organisation and consistency of documentation require substantial improvement. This situation is exacerbated by the decentralised approach to contract management and oversight,” it says.

NDP leader Andrea Horwath says the problems at Cancer Care are just another example of the lack of government control over the spending of taxpayers' dollars, proof of which was provided in the auditor's report.

Karomi drives channel into Africa

Chennai-based Karomi Technology, a provider of document and contract management solutions, intends to focus on developing channel programmes into Africa, states CIOL.

According to Vilva Natarajan, CEO, Karomi Technology, the generic document management market will get saturated by the next three years, and specialised/niche solutions will be in demand.

The company plans to roll out its new products to Africa, Middle-East and Latin America, where it is currently selling its enterprise products.

IBM powers Washington Metro

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), one of the busiest mass transportation systems in the US, is using IBM software to monitor all of its buses, trains, and related equipment, says PR Newswire.

IBM is set to roll out a solution for WMATA to improve maintenance procedures by integrating the overall work procedures with contract management, as well as monitor and manage the maintenance equipment.

IBM will help WMATA manage all of its assets including more than 12 000 bus stops and train stations, 106 miles of track, 1 144 rail cars, and 1 500 buses. The transportation system - 267 000 in total for WMATA, will be tracked, monitored, and managed from a central control centre.
