Canon expands Pixma range

The first three models are -enabled and can be used with Apple's AirPrint standard to print documents over a , without the need for drivers.

At the head of the pack is the Pixma MX897, which is the fastest model, reaching 12.5 images per minute (ipm) in black and white. It's also the only model to feature Google's Cloud Print, which allows users to print Gmail messages, attachments and selected Google Docs on the go. Canon has even included Pixma Cloud Link, a feature that lets users print documents from the company's own cloud server as well as Google's Picasa without the need for a computer.

All of the new Pixmas now also include a 35-sheet automatic document feeder and automatic duplex printing, making them more suitable for office use, Wirth Consulting notes.

The Pixma MX897 and MX517 add ECO-settings software that indicates the reduced number of paper used and reduced amount of CO2 emissions when using automatic duplex printing.

Replacing all ink and paper is performed from the front of the new Pixmas, and they also incorporate Canon's Dual Function Panel touch panel. Of note is that faxes can be saved to USB memory drives, and the Pixma MX897 and MX517 also provide built-in card slots for printing from memory cards. The Pixma MX897 and MX517 also provide a 6.2cm colour TFT display for previewing photos downloaded from memory cards.
