Plans to launch an Animal Retirement Village in Regents Park, Johannesburg, are coming to realisation, with the help of Canon SA`s cartridge collection and reselling contribution project.
Canon SA, together with the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, has formed a sponsorship partnership to set up the project.
The aim is to provide a more comfortable environment for 'retired`, old and abandoned animals.
Canon donated R50 000 to the initial phase of the project in February and will contribute a percentage from the cartridges collected and sold in the latest project.
"We started this project in February by donating a portion of our product sales to the Animal Retirement Village, but in the upcoming months money donated will come from recycling and possibly collecting some of the used and empty cartridges," says Kathryn Wittall, senior marketing co-ordinator at Canon.
"We need to collect about R250 000 for the project to be operational," says Heather Cowie, the league`s public relations officer and fundraiser. "We are initially going to start the shelter with 20 cats and 20 dogs. We hope that other companies can also embark on a project of this nature."
Canon`s "Paws up those who benefit from the sale of genuine Canon consumables" advertising campaign also supports this initiative.
