Canon SA staff boosted their team building and corporate social responsibility programmes when they built a new house for an Ivory Park couple and their three children, who have been living in a shack for the past 14 years.
"Under the guidance of Habitat for Humanity, which identified the Radebe family as the beneficiaries, Canon SA volunteered to fund and build the house," says Canon SA GM Nigel Taylor.
"Funding included building materials, the employment of a qualified builder to oversee the project, and education of the new owners on financial issues relating to owning a house.
"The Radebes are now proud owners of a new five-bedroom house that took Canon SA staff members three weeks to complete, working in shifts of 15 people a day," says Taylor.
"This was the first time the company was involved in such a project. The project further underscores Canon`s global viewpoint of Kyosei, which promotes living and working together for the common good.
"We hope that in the near future the company will tackle similar projects, as it`s such a rewarding experience," he says.
