Canon SA introduces two new CanoScan notebook scanners

Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2001

People who value function, but are not prepared to compromise on design, will be drawn to the two new CanoScan models that have been introduced to the South African market by Canon SA.

"Both the CanoScan N1240U and CanoScan N670U are examples of Canon`s commitment to image quality and pleasing aesthetic design." says Jennifer Gruwell, Product Manager for Printers and Scanners at Canon SA.

The N1240U offers the smallest footprint of any 1200dpi A4 scanner of the market today, as does the N640U, which offers the smallest footprint of any 600dpi A4 scanner. The N1240U delivers true 1200 x 2400dpi optical resolution and the N670U is able to offer the user true 600 x 1200dpi. The small footprint and high resolution in both models is made possible through Canon`s proprietary LIDE technology.

Breaking with convention, the N670U also offers vertical scanning, as a detachable stand allows the scanner to be tilted to 90 degrees for a smaller footprint and easy `upright scanning`. Both models make use of an articulated Z-lid, which makes scanning thicker items much easier. This is made possible by the document cover in both models that automatically adjusts to fit the height of books and magazines being scanned.

Three user-configurable `EZ Buttons` on each model mean that scanning could not be simpler. Once the user has inserted the target media for scanning, the appropriate EZ Button is selected and Canon`s advanced technology is able to do the rest. With the three EZ Buttons, it is possible to scan, copy and e-mail images with a single press of the appropriate EZ Button.

The new CanoScan models also sport a powerful multi-photo scanning technology that instantly speeds up the scanning operation. One needs to simply drop up to 10 target photographs under the Z-lid and then press an EZ Button. The software identifies all photos on the platen and scans each one automatically, de-skewing as necessary. Canon`s innovation makes photo scanning quick and simple.

USB Plug `n` Play set-up and installation means that the CanoScan N670U and N1240U are easy to install and operate. With no need for an adapter, the user only needs a single cable to link to their PC or Macintosh computer. Both machines come with a full range of imaging software for both PC and Mac applications.
