The CanonScan LiDE 700F scanner, distributed locally by Drive Control Corporation, is the first Canon scanner to capture 35mm film at an optical resolution of 9 600x9 600dpi by means of a clip-on attachment, says Canon Consumer Imaging South Africa.

A replacement for Canon's older CanonScan 400F, the LiDE 700F also features a space-saving design that can be configured for portrait, landscape and upright scanning, handy for work areas with limited space.

Photos can be scanned in at a maximum resolution of 4 800dpi, which empowers users to create intricately detailed reproductions of their photos, which can then be further enlarged.

The CanonScan LiDE 700F addresses several complaints traditionally levelled at scanners, offering near-instant warm-up times and delivering full-colour 300dpi A4 scans in only 12 seconds, thanks to Canon's LiDE technology. Power is provided via the included USB cable, helping to reduce the 'cable clutter' found behind many modern workstations, along with the need for 'just one more plug'.

Four 'EZ' buttons give users access to quick functions that let them scan, copy, e-mail and produce .PDF documents with one touch, and the Auto Scan function detects content as text or pictures, and calibrates the scanner automatically.

"The LiDE 700F is an affordable, easy to use, stylish compact scanner, offering high resolution and speed to the local business market and individual user alike," comments Abri Kriegler, product manager at Canon Consumer Imaging South Africa.

The CanonScan LiDE 700F at about R1 500.
