Canon SA has launched a range of products for the photographic and design market in line with its aim of increasing its share in this market.
Mark Geldenhuys, sales and marketing manager at Canon Business Solutions SA, says Canon is increasing its participation in the market with the launch of products such as the W7200 and W8200 wide-format printers, which he says offer "compelling features and technologies".
Canon has also unveiled its iRC3200N colour copier/printer, a document production and delivery solution.
Geldenhuys says convergence has delivered benefits in the document production space.
"It is logical and highly feasible to merge the function of printers, copiers and faxes into single machines. The savings are considerable; less space, less capital required for fewer machines and easier maintenance."
The iR 3100C black and white multifunctional printer with Smart Colour enables companies to share, scan and send information electronically, while making use of colour in documents. Available locally, the iR 3100C defaults to black and white unless colour is selected. Canon`s ID management technology makes use of individual passwords to limit the quantity of colour used.
The flagships of Canon`s new launches are the W2200, W7200 and the W8200 machines. "These have a one-inch-wide bi-directional print head for unprecedented print speeds in the demanding graphic design and repro industries," says Geldenhuys.
The W8200 produces 44-inch prints and features Canon`s Single Ink technology with six separate ink tanks, as does the W7200. The W2200 is a large format printer suitable for the high-end graphics art industry.
"There is still a perception that colour is unnecessary, but it actually adds a lot of value to your documents," says Geldenhuys. "The market is increasingly demanding imaging solutions that deliver the kind of quality that imitates art. Canon is responding to this with products like the W2200 and other new introductions," he adds.
Steven Schafer, sales and marketing director at Canon SA, says the average cost per colour print from a desktop is R2. "This does not include full on-site service," he adds.
"We aim to reduce the cost of desktop inkjet printing by 60% and include full on-site service including all spares and toner," says Schafer.
