Canon to descend on Egypt
Imaging and printing vendor Canon met with VARs and integrators in Egypt to underline its commitment to the market, says Channel EMEA.
With Business Monitor International predicting Egyptian IT spend will grow from $1.3 billion in 2010 to US$2.1 billion by 2014, Canon reckons the SME channel offers strong in-country growth potential.
The vendor plans to develop dedicated incentive packages for channel partners and plans to boost retail displays and training to increase toner attach rations with printers.
Prints get one up over electronic photos
The Photo Information Council of Australia (PICA) is supporting a worldwide competition aimed at encouraging consumers to print images rather than leave them in an electronic format, Photo&Imaging News notes.
The Australian photo industry unveiled the competition called Bring Your Photos to Life, and is offering a first prize of $3 000 for the best short video demonstrating the need to make prints of favourite photos.
The competition is being conducted on an international basis by the body of key retailers and distributors that make up PICA.
3D portrays Shakespeare's true image
Scientists have created what they claim is the first 'true image' of William Shakespeare, using state-of-the-art 3D technology, NDTV notes.
The warts-and-all image of Shakespeare shows very wrinkle on the British playwright's face and the figure's haunted stare is radically different from the existing images which purport to be of him, the Daily Mail reported.
The image is featured in a TV documentary called Death Masks, due to be aired on the History Channel on 13 September.
