Cape Apple ready to unleash Tiger

Cape Town, 28 Apr 2005

Cape Town Apple are ready for tomorrow`s world launch of Apple`s new operating system, and say customers are already lining up to buy it.

Apple`s new OS 10.4 operating system, codenamed Tiger, will be launched at 6pm local time tomorrow, 29 April. Some reviewers have called it the most significant Apple operating system, while others have given it a mixed reception.

One , Digicape, plans to mark the launch by pledging part of the proceeds to the Tygerberg Zoo to fund a new tiger enclosure. The company says it is part of a desire to give something back to the magnificent cats from where the name came.

Five percent of the money from sales of the operating system will be used to help build a new enclosure for the two Bengal tigers at the Tygerberg Zoo located outside Cape Town.

Digicape, along with fellow Apple reseller Project 3, will also mark the occasion with an event starting at 6pm, where both resellers will demonstrate the operating system to clients.

Project 3 MD Alan Goldburg says he has received a number of pre-orders for Tiger. "Many people are quite excited about it. I think it will be big seller in the long run."

"Tiger is not just an upgrade, it a major new version of the Apple operating system," says Robin Olivier, director at Digicape. "We`d like to bring PC users down to the Digicape store so they can find out what their experience could really be if they switched to an Apple. We believe this operating system will be the one that converts many users, especially those frustrated with the seemingly endless delays in the actual release of Longhorn."

According to Apple, the Mac OS X 10.4 adds new search capabilities, 64-bit computing power, easy-to-use task automation tools and more powerful graphics processing.

Digicape will hold a late night Tiger sale at its Roeland Street shop that will include lucky draws, giveaways, presentations and workshops.

Both centres say they will have experts to demonstrate the new video editing features in OS X Tiger and to share tips to get the most out of a digital camera with iPhoto, and how to mix tunes with GarageBand.

"For the development community, we can talk about the new Xcode 2 and Cocoa development environments for Apple," says Olivier.
