Cape broker Dalys automates insurance tracking with PQ Africa

Johannesburg, 19 Jun 2001

Cape-based incorporated insurance broking, risk and claims management firm Dalys and Associates has upgraded its custom underwriting and claims systems to allow for automated debit order processing, satellite branch connectivity and client-side claims tracking.

As an insurance broker with its own binding facilities - allowing for risk assessments and claims payout without contacting an insurer - Dalys has a specific set of requirements for its IT systems. Each insurer has a different means of insuring different assets, so Dalys` systems regularly need to be adapted to new insurance vehicles.

Dalys director Greg Lendis says the latest system changes, developed and implemented by PQ Africa`s Western Cape Software Factory, automate debit order processing and introduce several new time-saving efficiencies that benefit the company`s bottom line.

"We have developed a module that allows satellite branches to access our systems and use them to process their own claims," Lendis says.

"Another new development gives some of our larger clients access to our claims system so they can track their submissions through to payment, as opposed to phoning or faxing us to track the claim process."

In conjunction with Dalys` Sage CS/3 accounting system, supplied by PQ Africa`s PQ Tetra division, the claims and underwriting systems interact across all business levels.

"The systems reduce paperwork, improve productivity and result in increased efficiency for Dalys," notes Lendis. "They enable us, among other things, to issue policies, calculate premiums within minutes and automatically generate reports.

"We can, by example, report to Lloyds of London directly," he adds. "In the past we would send claims individually via post; now the system collates all claims for Lloyds and sends them as a batch."

Lendis says the next development stage will introduce a module that allows Dalys clients to register their own claims.
