A delegation of Western Cape IT companies is to undertake an IT trade mission to Florida and New York next month to promote the region`s IT sector.
Twelve Western Cape IT companies have been selected to take part in the mission, which has the backing of Trade and Investment South Africa and the Western Cape Investment and Trade Promotion Agency (Wesgro). Wesgro is an independent agency that aims to market investment opportunities in the Western Cape.
The trade mission, led by senior Wesgro economist Anders Aeroe, aims to establish business relationships and give Western Cape IT companies the opportunity to explore the US as a market.
The programme will feature a mix of seminars and one-to-one meetings between the Western Cape representatives and relevant US companies and potential clients. The seminars will explore themes such as the venture capital situation in New York and Florida, recent developments in the US IT environment and US analysts` view of the future.
The 12 companies chosen from 55 applicants represent a cross-spectrum of complementary IT offerings, including business systems solutions, customised software development and niche products and services.
The companies selected to take part in the mission are: Acceleration Internet Marketing, Basix Solutions, Business Systems Group (Africa), Candor Technologies, DVT Business Solutions, Grapevine Interactive, Trans African Technologies, Ndizani Info Communications, Prime Empowerment Group, Rocketseed, Safmarine Computer Services and Tellumat.
Chris Wilkins, co-founder and director of DVT Business Systems, says: "We are honoured to have been chosen for the mission. Companies were chosen based on their ability to be successful in the US market - international standards and quality were critical criteria."
The delegation leaves on 19 October, starting with a week in Florida.
