Cape women to learn project management

Wilson TPM (technology project management), a new consulting company in the Cape, aims to teach technology project management skills to at least 50 women from previously disadvantaged areas in the Western Cape this year.

"It is imperative for women PDIs to be taught technology project management in today`s competitive IT environment," says Wilson TPM owner Richard Wilson.

The company will be officially launched in May this year and will implement a UK-designed programme called Prince 2. Prince 2 is a "process-based approach for project management".

Wilson TPM will not only train these graduates, but will also assist in job placement. Wilson says he hopes to have the costs of the training borne by prospective employers.

Wilson feels more people need technology project management training because technology projects require extensive co-operation between business units, information systems and management.

Financial services and utilities sectors, which employ a large ICT workforce, would benefit from the programme, he adds.
